About Us
About us
Joyce Dachshund Puppies
Our puppies are neurologically stimulated which produces dogs who have healthier cardiovascular performance.
This means stronger hearts, stronger adrenal glands, increased tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease.
Our puppies are naturally weaned by the mother (not typical of most breeders) producing pups who have an increase in self-control, relational comfort with other dogs, patience, and attention span… while also experiencing a decrease in aggression towards people and other dogs.
Our puppies are constantly exposed to common noises and sounds such as children playing & crying, vacuum cleaners, thunderstorms, and fireworks.
With ten years of experience and a passionate and dedicated team, we are trusted experts in this industry with a wealth of knowledge and the resources to care for, train, and socialise our animals.
As ethical breeders, concern for the health and well-being of our puppies is paramount and will always be a priority before profits. Our core values ensure that our dogs receive enrichment and an excellent quality of life.
Our animals are our passion, and even though our primary jobs take us off from time to time, we have a team put in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for every one of our puppies.
We advise purchases to buy from specialist full-time dog breeders instead of part-time breeders who allow their dogs to whelp unsupervised.
Our mission is to breed for excellence in health, intelligence, temperament and hypo-allergenic qualities.
Our Vision
Breeding dachshund puppies for home and families.
Our Mission
Delivering quality puppies to our customers, making dreams come true
Dachshunds are a unique and charming breed with several distinctive characteristics. Here’s an overview:
Appearance:
- Size: Small and compact, typically weighing between 8 to 12 pounds.
- Body: Long, low-to-the-ground bodies with short legs. They have a distinct, almost “sausage-like” shape.
- Coat: They come in three types of coats: smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired. Each type gives them a slightly different look but maintains their signature silhouette.
- Ears: Large, floppy ears that add to their cuteness.
Temperament:
- Bold and Confident: Despite their small size, dachshunds are known for being courageous and determined. They have a fearless personality and often don’t realize how small they are compared to other dogs.
- Loyal and Affectionate: They form strong bonds with their owners and can be very loving and loyal. They enjoy being the center of attention and often seek affection from their humans.
- Independent: While they’re affectionate, they can also be independent and sometimes a little stubborn, which can make training a challenge. They have a mind of their own, but with patience and consistency, they can learn well.
Energy Level:
- Moderate Energy: While they love to play and be active, dachshunds aren’t as hyperactive as some other small breeds. They do enjoy walks, playtime, and exploring, but they also enjoy lounging and relaxing with their humans.
- Hunting Instincts: Originally bred for hunting small game like rabbits, they have a strong prey drive. This means they might chase after small animals like squirrels or even cats if not properly trained or socialized.
Health:
- Back Problems: Due to their long spine and short legs, dachshunds are prone to back issues, especially intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). It’s important to avoid excessive jumping or rough play that might strain their backs.
- Life Expectancy: Generally, they live long lives, averaging around 12-16 years, though with good care, some can live even longer.
Socialization and Training:
- Social but Independent: They get along well with their families, and with proper socialization, they can also be friendly with other dogs and pets. However, due to their hunting instincts, early socialization is key to prevent excessive barking or chasing.
- Training: They are intelligent but can be a bit stubborn, so training requires patience and consistency. Positive reinforcement works best, as they respond well to treats and praise.
Barking:
- Alert and Vocal: Dachshunds are known to be quite vocal. They’ll bark at strangers or unusual sounds, which makes them good watchdogs. However, this can also mean they might bark a lot if not properly trained or given enough mental stimulation.
Overall, dachshunds are a fun, affectionate, and unique breed. They’re great for people who can provide them with attention, mental stimulation, and a safe environment to explore their world!
